Samsung unites with Lucky Motors to produce phones in Pakistan

Lucky Motors, which is a subsidiary of Lucky Cement Limited, will soon be assembling phones produced by Samsung, here in Pakistan.

In a letter sent to the Pakistan Stock Exchange by the company, they stated that they had “entered into an agreement with Samsung Gulf Electronics Co., FZE (Samsung) for producing Samsung branded mobile devices in Pakistan”, and have since started the “process of seeking necessary regulatory approvals” such as filing an application with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) for the license.

According to the letter, the production facility will be housed at Lucky Motor Corporation’s existing plant producing vehicles at Bin Qasim Industrial Park in Port Qasim, Karachi, and is expected to be completed by the “end of December 2021.”

Asim Bajwa, the Chairman of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), commended this agreement, stating that “this landmark development coupled with a number of upcoming Chinese mobile phone manufacturing facilities in Pakistan will expand our manufacturing base, help boost exports and create more jobs.”
